Introducing Good Hope: A Unique 47ft Cutter Rigged Sailing Yacht

The Bluewater 41 is a renowned sailing yacht, celebrated for its robust construction and exceptional seafaring capabilities. Designed by Terry Wells, this Good Hope has its roots in New Zealand, with approximately 13 to 14 models crafted over the past four decades.

Good Hope is a notable example showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship characteristic of the Bluewater 41 lineage. She features a GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) hull, which underwent an epoxy coating in 2004 to enhance durability. In 2014, 12mm teak decks were installed, providing both aesthetic appeal and functional resilience. A significant refurbishment in 2024 included a full professional repainting with white Awlgrip, ensuring the vessel's pristine appearance.

Good Hope is powered by a Yanmar 4JH4AE diesel engine, installed in 2010, delivering 56 horsepower. This engine, combined with a Darglow Featherstream 20” 4-blade feathering propeller, ensures reliable and efficient propulsion. For maneuverability, especially in tight harbours, a bow thruster is incorporated.

Designed for extended voyages, Good Hope offers ample accommodations. Comfortably sleeping six across two cabins and the saloon area. The aft cabin boasts a large double berth with a memory foam mattress, updated in 2022, ensuring restful nights at sea. The galley is well-equipped with dual stainless steel sinks, a chest fridge with a new plate and compressor added in 2020, and an Eno two-burner gas cooker with an oven and grill.

The rigging setup is both robust and versatile. The aluminum mast and boom were refinished with Awlgrip in 2024, and the standing rigging was renewed in 2017. Sail options include a fully battened mainsail with three reefing points, a Yankee sail added in 2016, and a storm jib from the same year, ensuring preparedness for varied wind conditions.

Good Hope has a storied sailing history, having journeyed from New Zealand to the United Kingdom under previous ownership. Such a voyage underscores the vessel's capability for long-distance, bluewater cruising, a testament to its design and build quality.

In essence, Good Hope stands as a paragon of New Zealand maritime craftsmanship, blending classic design elements with modern amenities. Its enduring appeal and proven seaworthiness make it a cherished choice among sailing enthusiasts worldwide.
